These are what I tried during my trip to Varanasi on 01,02,03/04/2024.
Phara
Touted to be originated in Varanasi, Phara is a steamed dish of rice flour stuffed with lentil mix. It was just bland!
Rating: 2/5

Fried Phara
Fried and better tasting variant of Phara.
Rating: 3/5

Mix Fruit Lassi
At the lassi shop solely running by scamming tourists, the mixed fruit lassi was creamy and good but it couldn't be relished due to the terrible and delayed discriminating service for non foreigners! Also, 120 rupees for a single lassi is just robbery!
Rating: 2/5

Location: Blue Lassi Shop, Lahori Tola
Jain Thali
No onion no garlic thali with Jeera Aloo, Roti, Paneer Gravy, Dal, Rice, Gulab Jamun. One of the best lunches you can get in Varanasi!
Rating: 3.5/5

Sweets
Spongy rasgulla, raj bhog and other bengali sweets. Must try in Varanasi!
Rating: 4/5

Location: Chotu Lassi, Godowlia
Lal Peda
Lal peda is a unique North Indian peda mithai with a reddish brown colour. In one of the oldest sweet shops in India running since 1887, it was terrible and tasted like paan!
Rating: 0/5

Location: Shri Rajbandhu Sweets, Gurubagh
Kesariya Mocktail
Made with apple, saffron, honey and tonic water, it was okay.
Rating: 3/5

Jamuni Mocktail
Spiced jamun based mocktail presented uniquely in copperware.
Rating: 3/5

Malaiyo
Malaiyo is a smooth, light milk cream based dessert, very popular in Varanasi. It was great!
Rating: 3.5/5

Location: Tandoor Villa, Nadesar
See you soon after my next trip. Feel free to suggest any new/unique vegetarian/non alcoholic items I can try. Cheers!
