Kappa Chakka Kandhari, Chennai serves both a la carte and set menus having many varieties of traditional and modern Kerala cuisine foods. These are what I had there during my earlier visit in 2022.


Monsoon Magic (Set Menu)


Kappa Vada


Vada made with a spiced mix of tapioca and shallots. Served as a replacement for Mushroom Pothi.

Black chickpeas pan fried in a coconut spice mix.

Vazhappoo Cutlet


It's a crispy banana blossom cutlet. It tasted great with their special tomato jam.

Chena Fry


Yam fried in Kerala style spices.

Vattayappam Vendakkai Mappas


Vattayappam is a steamed fermented rice cake. It was sour & slightly sweet and tasted good with the coriander coconut based okra curry.

Ramassery Idli


It's based on a unique idli recipe from Ramassery village in Kerala. It was pretty smooth texture wise and tasted fine with sambar but it wasn't really as good as expected though.

Cloud Pudding


It's a very light and soft pudding made with tender coconut.

Meal Rating: 3.5/5

Though none of the items in this meal were particularly extraordinary, the combination was pretty decent and filling. So, I went to this place again for dinner on the same day.

Koorka Ularthiyathu


Chinese potato lightly fried in Kerala style spices. Served as a replacement for Koon Pepper Fry.

Crumb fried cutlet made with mixed vegetables.

Chembu Roast


Colocasia root roasted in a spice mix of tamarind and Marayoor jaggery.

Masala Sukhiyan


Sukhiyan is a batter fried mung bean dumpling. It was pretty good.

Pineapple Nendram Masala


Pineapple based relish made with spice mixed ripe bananas.

Appam Vegetable Stew


Appam is a fermented rice pancake. It was delicious with the coconut milk based vegetable stew.

Pidi


Rice dumpling balls cooked in coconut milk. Tasted great with Kadala curry.

Red Rice


Boiled red rice served with a papad. Worked well with chilli relish and aviyal curry.

Avial is a thick curry made with mixed vegetables and coconut spices. Unlike its look, it tasted good.

Absolute Kandhari


It's lemon juice spiced with bird's eye chili. It was spicy, sour and soothing.

Comprising of items made with different varieties of ingredients & cooking styles, tastes & textures, this meal was very satisfying!
